Our Philosophy
We have a child centered environment, where children can use their own imaginations as much as possible. We have a developmentally appropriate and fun environment with a welcoming feel. Most of our learning tools are realistic and natural which allows the children to bring in the color. We believe in teaching lifelong behavior and problem solving skills through guidance and example, focusing on social/emotional development. We believe that as teachers, we are partners in learning with the children. Close communication between parents and teachers is necessary for optimum growth. The family is always the child's primary educator and our role is to support both the child and the family.
Emergent Curriculum
An emergent curriculum is one that builds upon the interest of the children. It is often spontaneous and responsive to the immediate interests of a group of children. Topics are driven by the ideas, excitement, information and questions from the children themselves. In traditional classrooms the curriculum is initiated by the teacher. Each unit has a theme and activities are planned and prepared in advance.
At Simply Giggle, the topic will be indicated by the children. We will observe the children and listen to where their areas of interest are. Ideas can be supported and extended by providing equipment, books, craft supplies, and experiences through which the children can learn more about their natural interests and curiosities. We are not the “expert” who knows all and teaches the children but rather the teachers co-explore alongside the children and observe and encourage their discoveries. The initial topic may sprout off in many directions combining several seemingly unrelated topics. Each topic may last a day, a week, a month or more. As long as the children are interested in pursuing the ideas, we will continue with the topic. If the initial topic is broad, we may try and help narrow it down.
